Functional Foods

ORAC Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity
The US Department Of Agriculture Human Nutrition Research Centre on Ageing (HNRCA) at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts has been studying the antioxidant properties of whole foods. They set out to measure the total antioxidant power of individual foods. They established the Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (the ORAC score) a measure of each food's ability to neutralize free radicals and protect the body from ageing and degenerative disease. According to the researchers, we should be aiming for at least 3,000 and, for a maximum protection, 5000 ORAC units every single day.

Each process has its benefits over the other as with everything the best process for colour and flavour is also the most expensive (FD). The below list will explain what is available in what style. Health is one of our largest areas of operation. This may involve supplying small quantities of vitamin C to the general public, capsules or minerals to compounding pharmacists or carrying out contract health powder blending. Colour is a growing area for us. The Melbourne Food Ingredient Depot has been supplying colours t many industries for a number of years. Our main speciality is supply into the confectionery manufacturing sector. This involves the supply of natural and synethic (artifical) colours. Over the years many other industry sectors have used our colours a small selection includes theatre/film making, soap making, green keepers for lawn bowl clubs and ceramics. All our colours are food grade and approved for use in food applications in Australia.
