Straggling, square-stemmed annual growing to a height of 1.2meters with whorls of lance-shaped leaves, clusters of small white flowers and small, round, green fruit with hooked prickles.

Pharmacological Properties

The root and the seeds help to cleanse the body of waste products, and the root is thought to be particularly good at helping to eliminate heavy metals.

Contains iridoids, polyphenolic acids, anthraquinones (root only), alkanes, flavonoids and tannins. Asperuloside is a mild laxative.
